Documentary: The Power To Connect
At Humasol, we believe that close partnerships, where sustainable technology and social solidarity come together, lead to real impact. That is why every year we guide students who put their knowledge and energy into sustainable technology projects all around the world. We are a student organisation of some 120 volunteers, and the documentary zooms in on one project team of four students.
We follow a team of Belgian and Senegalese students (KU Leuven and UCAD Dakar) throughout their entire journey around Ferme Moringa in Mbodiène, Senegal - an educational agro-ecological farm that trains vulnerable families and young people in sustainable agriculture. Together they designed and installed a solar panel installation, an electricity grid and a water pumping system. During the preparation, the Senegalese students came to Belgium to work on the design, after which the Belgian students travelled to Senegal to build it on site.
The result is about much more than a technically challenging project. It shows the collaboration with international partners, life and work in Senegal, and the personal experiences such a journey brings with it. A story about commitment, collaboration and lasting impact - from the preparation in Belgium to the realisation in Senegal.
More than just a screening
It is an evening where the international solidarity sector comes together with students. After the screening, two panel discussions follow: one with the students themselves about the documentary, and one with organisations and universities from the sector about the bigger picture of young people in international solidarity. Afterwards there is a reception with food, drinks and live music, where organisations and students can meet each other.
