Most days I stare at the ceiling

To not forget my body I trace it onto the mattress with a marker.It took me a long time to tell my mother the source of my nightmares.I tried to shut my brain with my bare hands.
Squeeze the air out.
Stab a knife through my forehead.
I don’t think I have a choice.
But to return to the place I thought I had escaped.
Tonight I will play for you, my nightmares
Because maybe, if we are in them together,
They will move their place in this world.
Swan Songs is een muzikale en beeldende voorstelling over wat het betekent om te protesteren wanneer je lichaam niet langer meedoet aan het ritme van de publieke ruimte. Geïnspireerd door Sick Woman Theory van Johanna Hedva en oude protestliederen ontvouwt zich tussen opera, technologie en dans een universum waarin het zieke lichaam zelf een politiek terrein wordt.
Schwander onderzoekt hoe het documenteren van ziekte een manier kan zijn om terug te vechten, vanuit het idee dat protest vaak geïnternaliseerd en onzichtbaar is.
