Vanaf zijn vroege dagen waarop hij fusion jazz verkende met AFTERTOUCH, is pianist-componist Ivan Paduart uitgegroeid tot één van de meest onderscheidende stemmen in de moderne akoestische jazz van West-Europa. Met diepe wortels in het erfgoed van Bill Evans, Fred Hersch en Herbie Hancock, heeft Paduart zijn eigen onmiskenbare muzikale signatuur geschapen – één die spreekt met welsprekendheid, introspectie en profonde muzikaliteit.

Gedurende vier decennia heeft Ivan samengewerkt met enkele van ‘s werelds fijnste musici – van Richard Galliano tot Tom Harrell, van Toots Thielemans tot Manu Katché, van Philip Catherine tot Richard Bona. Elk partnership heeft zijn kunstenaarschap verdiept en zijn visie verbreed. Toch schijnt zijn creatieve geest op dit moment het helderst.

Sinds 2017 wijdt Ivan zich aan een buitengewoon creatief partnerschap met gitarist Patrick Deltenre – een muzikale metgezel uit zijn vroegste dagen die in Ivan een geestverwant heeft herontdekt. Samen hebben zij drie lumineuze albums gecreëerd: Hand in Hand, Ear we are en Inner Travels. Deze werken vertegenwoordigen meer dan 200 concerten door heel Europa – van Portugal tot Rusland, door Frankrijk, Zwitserland, Nederland, Luxemburg en België – een levend getuigenis van hun symbiontische kunstenaarschap.

Tegelijkertijd verkendt Ivan mutige nieuwe territoria door zijn samenwerking met wereldmusicus en chromatisch mondharmonica speler Olivier Ker Ourio, aan de zijde van visionaire artiesten als bassist Richard Bona en percussionist Manu Katché. Deze voortdurende dialogen vertegenwoordigen het hart van zijn creatieve stem – een ruimte waar jazz zich opent voor de wereld, waar grenzen oplossen en waar pure menselijke verbinding door muziek de enige waarheid wordt die telt.

Of hij nu optreedt in de intieme duo’s met Deltenre of zich inzet voor de uitgebreide, interculturele exploraties met Ker Ourio, Ivan Paduart blijft trouw aan zijn kernmissie: muziek scheppen met diepte, authenticiteit en transformatieve schoonheid. Zijn piano spreekt een taal die woorden overtreft – één die luisteraars over de hele wereld hebben leren kennen en koesteren.

Vanessa Matthys is a Belgian jazz vocalist who moves effortlessly between intimacy and intensity, weaving together storytelling, improvisation and a deeply personal sound. Her music is rooted in the jazz tradition, yet constantly reaches beyond it - towards subtle textures, lyrical depth and unexpected colours.

​Over the years, Vanessa has built a diverse and international practice. She has appeared as a soloist with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra and collaborated with a wide range of musicians across the European jazz scene. In 2022, she toured Flanders and Austria with her father, pianist and composer Marc Matthys, presenting a tribute to Toots Thielemans - later released as the album Time Flies, Sit Back and Enjoy.

​Her more recent work reflects a growing interest in reimagining repertoire. In collaboration with pianist Ivan Paduart, she explores the meeting point between the Belgian and American Songbook, blending original compositions with inventive arrangements that highlight her narrative approach to music.

​As of June 2026 Vanessa is the new soprano of the Belgian close harmony formation Nelja.

​In June 2026, she released The Secret Vault, her debut album as a bandleader, with the Vanessa Matthys Quartet - an international ensemble featuring Dominique Vantomme (piano), Werner Lauscher (bass) and Geert Roelofs (drums). The album presents a carefully crafted universe where contemporary jazz, traditional repertoire and timeless pop songs are reshaped into a coherent and distinctive sound.​ On stage, Vanessa Matthys creates space - for silence, for nuance, for connection. Her voice carries both clarity and depth, allowing melodies to unfold naturally while leaving room for interplay and improvisation. The result is music that feels at once intimate and expansive: grounded, yet searching; refined, yet full of life.

​Alongside her artistic work, Vanessa is actively engaged in research and education. As a researcher at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (2020–2023), she co-developed an innovative approach to jazz vocal technique with Katrien Van Opstal, resulting in the book Jazz Vocal Technique – the Mixing Table Model (Auurk, 2023). She currently teaches jazz vocals and is head of the jazz department at the Conservatory of Kortrijk.​
