The documentary by Petr Jančárek, Havel Speaking, Can You Hear Me?, offers an intimate and authentic look at one of the most significant symbols of freedom, democracy, and courage. The film presents Václav Havel in various facets—not only as a president and film director but also as a person with everyday joys and concerns. This documentary draws on previously unpublished material capturing Havel in the final years of his life and emphasises ideas that continue to resonate powerfully and relevantly today.
The event is organised by Vlaczek, a Flemish-Czech-Slovak association based in Leuven, which promotes cultural and interpersonal relationships between the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Flanders. The screening is organised to commemorate the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution and to celebrate the values that Václav Havel championed throughout his life.
